On Tuesday, December the 10th 2019 took place the seventh edition of “Premios Amigos de España” (Friends of Spain Awards). The award celebrates the promotion of the relation between Spain and Qatar; it gives a special recognition to those companies and individuals that show a great friendship towards Spain over the years and make great efforts to bring both nations closer.
It is the first year that the Award is given by the Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Qatar officially recognized as such. This 2019 awardees were, His Excellency Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim bin Faisal Al-Thani as individual awardee and AGRICO represented by Mr. Ahmed Hussain Al Khalaf, Chairman and Owner of AGRICO in corporate category.
Ambassador of Spain in Qatar Ms. Belén Alfaro took the floor to review Spain and Qatar relations and the important contributions made by the laureates to strengthen bilateral relations. Mr. José Vicente Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce congratulated the laureates and mentioned the importance in the competitive world where we live in to have companies and individuals like the awardees.
As for the individual award, the Embassy and the Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that this year it has been bestowed upon His Excellency Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim bin Faisal Al-Thani not only as Chairman of Qatari Business Men Association but also as Chairman of Al Faisal Holding, as Founder of Al Faisal Foundation, as Chairman of “Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani center for Entrepreneurship in the Middle East and as Founder and Chairman of “Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani Museum”
Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani is not only considered a leading businessman, but he is also regarded as a key player in promoting the heritage and culture of Qatar. His Excellency is inspiring to everyone, having contributed to the development of Qatar’s economy and made Qatar the country where we live in. The Ambassador of Spain to Qatar H.E. Ms. Belen Alfaro highlighted that H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani had started working in the business world at a very young age, establishing commercial relations with Spain since the very beginning, fostering good relations and genuine friendship between Qatar and Spain.
On the decision to confer the award on AGRICO, the Ambassador of Spain to Qatar H.E Ms. Belén Alfaro and Chairman said that AGRICO is about a vision for Qatar, about the country sustainable future. The company leads an amazing social impact since it is achieving food security in Qatar, its outstanding technology has implied that, “Qatar has become one of the largest producers of organic vegetables in the world using what he described as a promising and one-of-its-kind hydroponics technology”. The hydroponic production gives higher yield, better quality of vegetables and fruits, and consumes 90% less water compared to conventional system of farming.
The relationship with Spain comes from the beginning, increasing year after year. Spain is present in AGRICO’s technology, imported materials, expertise and skilled employees.
With the Award, the Embassy of Spain to Qatar and the Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Qatar want to highlight that both Official Institutions follow the work of the awardees because their focus on economic growth, leads into employment opportunities, social improvement and community well-being.
Al Faisal Holdings is a widely respected contributor to the development of Qatar’s knowledge-based economy through its focus on education and skills development among the current generation of young Qataris on whom the country’s future economic growth will rely.
Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani is not only considered a leading business icon, but he is also regarded as a key player in promoting the heritage and culture of Qatar, and is very proud of Qatar’s history, and the impact it has had on the social behavior of Qatari society. Sheikh Faisal pioneered the establishment of a heritage venue “Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum”, with the objective of reviving public interest and appreciation of local culture, a venue which perpetuated his vision.
